That’s an interesting question, and very important if you are to seriously consider if social marketing is a viable option.
Pricing structures can be confusing
As with most things in the creative marketing world, prices vary from agency to agency, and depend on location, expectations, scope of the work involved and specific project outcomes etc.
In an ideal world there would be pricing consistency across the UK, but that isn’t the case. Whether you’re working with a dental marketing agency, or social marketing healthcare business, always be clear on costs, and ask lots of questions.
So how do you go about pricing a social marketing campaign when each brief is so different? The answer is you work with an agency that you believe in and ideally choose one that has experience delivering a similar behaviour change campaign. This experience will help you short cut to the behaviour change outcomes or goals of your campaign, and saving time should equal saving money. So if you’re looking to reduce CVD in men aged 30-74 or reduce the number of dental patients that don’t attend appointments, then simply find an social marketing agency that has delivered this and owns the t-shirt!
Try and get prices pinned down early on in the process
We think it’s important that you know exactly what it’s going to cost before you sign the contract. There’s no reason why you shouldn’t expect a detailed breakdown of costs, including variable add-ons, early on in the process. It’s only when you have it, that you can begin to understand what’s involved, when it’s going to happen and whether it’s something you can afford.
Beware of rising costs if you change the brief
If you subsequently decide that you want to change the brief parameters, then be aware that this will inevitably cost more. Work with an agency that is open and honest about costs from the outset, and one that you fully trust to deliver and financially manage your project.
A slight word of caution
Be concerned about agencies that aren’t upfront about charges. This could be a sign that they don’t know, or don’t have their finger on the pulse! An open and honest agency will keep you informed throughout, so that neither you (nor they) lose sight of what the actual costs are going to be.
Most businesses and organisations wouldn’t consider signing a blank cheque, so you shouldn’t either.
