You’ve read about social marketing campaigns, think the approach could work for you, and done some initial market research. But the real question is: how affordable is a social marketing project for your business or organisation? How do you start to appreciate if it’s feasible from a cost perspective?
And the price is….?
Not many marketing agencies will publish prices (in any form) on their website. And in many respects, that’s understandable. Why? They risk getting it completely wrong, or misleading customers, which will blow them out of the water to coin a phrase.
Most agencies will name a price when they have had a discussion with you and understand what you want to achieve, but its not really practical to publish standard prices, given each project has its own unique parameters.
Having said that, look out for upfront social marketing agencies to help you by providing price indicators or bands for elements recommended in a campaign. In other words, you will probably be advised to use video content in most campaigns. So get a steer, a 2 to 3 minute education video featuring interviews, including production, editing and direction (to completion), is between £x and £x.
Be clear about what you want to achieve from the outset, and an accurate price can be easily calculated.
When you think about it, it’s near impossible to be clear and confident about prices until you know what the project actually is, so don’t be put off when visiting websites and doing your research.
Keep your budget in mind
Then there’s the question of budget. If you’re working to a specific budget, then it’s good to share that news with your agency in the early days, as it gives them some key parameters to work with.
We’ve partnered businesses all over the country and feel that openness and honesty always pays, especially is you know your budget is limited. If you make it clear that your budget is just £6,000, then a social marketing agency can craft a scheme that delivers against your finances, key requirements and vision. It’s better for all parties to get a project scope that is right first time.
The customer is king
Things have changed in the world of buying and selling in the past decade and technology now allows agencies to do more with less. So if you’re thinking of working with a social marketing agency, it pays to be honest about your finances and cost expectations – and any social marketing agency worthy of your business, will be honest right back.
And the moral of the story is? Honesty always pays. Work with an agency that you think you can trust – and they’ll tell you how much when they feel they can give you an accurate price - no more, no less.
